Thermostats

Thermostat Tips and Tricks

When it comes to keeping your home comfortable, your electronic thermostat plays a big role. This small screen controls the temperature and can greatly contribute to your family’s well-being. After all, even if your air conditioning unit is in perfect working order, it’s no good to you if you can’t turn it on. Because of this, our team at Allied Services, Inc. is sharing some of the problems caused by faulty thermostats.

Your Unit Won’t Turn On

The first and most obvious sign that your thermostat isn’t working is when your HVAC system won’t turn on. If it’s 90 degrees in your house and your AC won’t turn on, it’s easy to panic. But instead, consider that your thermostat may be malfunctioning and try turning it off and back on again. Often, as with most technologies, this can give the device a much-needed reboot. If that doesn’t work, then you may be looking at a bigger issue like faulty wiring and it’s time to call a professional to check it out.

Your Thermostat Is Unresponsive

Most modern thermostats are touch-screen devices, and sometimes you find yourself touching yours and realizing nothing is happening. Though this may seem like a big problem, there are some simple things you can try to get it to respond. First, try cleaning the screen and, if that doesn’t work, change the batteries. However, if neither of these attempts work, you may be looking at bigger electronic problems and will need professional help.

Your Thermostat Is In a Bad Location

Did you know that the location of your thermostat can actually affect the overall comfort of your home? If it is placed too close to a heat source (like an oven), if it gets too much natural sunlight, or if it’s next to a frequently opened door, it could be misreading the ambient temperature of your home. Our certified HVAC technicians can assess your thermostat and ensure that it’s in the best location.
