At Allied Services, Inc. we value our customers and enjoying helping them with their HVAC problems. But deep down, we know you’d rather not have to call us. In fact, in a perfect world, there would be no HVAC problems and no need for our services! However, air conditioning units fail, furnaces stop heating and maintenance is needed on a regular basis. The good news is that there are a few things you can be doing that will make our visits less frequent and today we are listing them for you.
Schedule Preventative Maintenance
Our first tip to avoid our visits is actually to schedule visits. Annual AC maintenance maintains the system and prevents overuse. Regular maintenance can delay the need to replace an air conditioner because overworked and neglected air conditioners generally die early. Since your service specialist will examine the complete unit and look for any potential issues, annual maintenance can also prevent almost all unexpected AC breakdowns and related air conditioning repairs.
Replace Air Filters
For the health of your air conditioner, make sure the air filters are clean. The motor is put under tremendous strain and may even be destroyed when filters get dusty, clogged, or obstructed. The lifespan of the system can be shortened even if the motor survives. Poor indoor air quality is also a result of dirty filters. The amount of dust that builds up in the filter can pollute the air and leave a layer of grime on your equipment. Your AC unit’s interior can become so filthy that it performs poorly, uses more energy, and results in higher electricity costs.
Check the Condensate Line
Finally, keep an eye on the drain line that emerges from your house near the outdoor unit. This line is used to drain the moisture removed from the air inside the home and should drip steadily. Your HVAC tech will inspect the line during your annual maintenance, but it’s a good idea to check it periodically to make sure everything is functioning as it should, and there aren’t any noticeable blockages.
