3 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your AC Unit

Summer is right around the corner and you will soon be depending on your AC unit to keep your home cool and comfortable. To get the most of your air conditioner, you can’t just turn it on and forget about it; rather, you need to take steps to help it along. To protect your system and keep your home cool all summer, follow these three tips and tricks from your friends at Allied Services, Inc.

1. Check Your…

First, to get the most out of your AC unit, it’s important to keep and eye on the following things:

  • Thermostat: Make sure you are happy with the settings on your thermostat. If your thermostat only offers one temperature setting, it’s likely outdated and therefore it’s time to consider upgrading to a newer model. An updated thermostat will be more energy-efficient and could actually save you money.
  • Ductwork: Take stock of your exposed ductwork and look for signs of wear and tear. Cracks, holes, or similar damage could be lowering the AC efficiency in your home. While you’re at it, consider scheduling professional ductwork cleaning to start this cooling season off right.
  • Air Vents: Finally, walk around your house and check on your air vents. Are they closed? Is something blocking them? Take the time to make sure they are clean and clear by vacuuming out the dust.

2. Change Your Filter

Most air filters should be changed at least every three months, but we recommend checking it every month to ensure it’s not full. Failing to change your air filter can cause your air conditioner to work harder to cool your home, and can even lead to your air conditioner freezing up.

3. Have Your Unit Serviced

Finally, have your AC unit serviced regularly. At Allied, we offer competitive maintenance plans that provide low-cost protection for your systems. With Allied Total Care, you’ll receive semiannual inspections as well as exclusive benefits, discounts, and rates on our HVAC services. Regularly servicing the equipment helps to extend its life and ensure that it will stay in great condition for as long as possible.

To keep your home cool and comfortable all summer long, take special care of your air conditioning and trust the professionals at Allied Services, Inc.
