Mini Splits

How to Care for Your Ductless Mini Split

If you use a ductless mini split in your home, you’re already reaping the benefits of indoor climate control of an individual living space. We love the year-round comfort and flexibility that come with a mini split, and while it’s true that the installation process is a breeze, it is important to remember to maintain your system. Our team at Allied Services, Inc. has put together a quick guide so you can be sure to clean and care for your mini split the right way.

The Importance of Cleaning Your Mini Split

To function at its best for the duration of its lifespan, a ductless mini split system needs to be kept clean. Dust, dirt, and other foreign materials will reduce the system’s ventilation. Your home’s air quality will decline if problems are not addressed. as foreign materials spread across each room. Mold can occasionally grow in your ventilation channels and can have negative impacts on your family’s health.

How to Clean Your Mini Split

We recommend cleaning your mini split once a month with the right supplies – a dry cloth, a slightly damp cloth, a household cleaning solution, a vacuum with a brush nozzle, and an adjustable water hose. While the majority of cleaning products will work, check your product manual for a safe suggestion on what to use. Clean the interior components by wiping them down with your damp cloth and drying them thoroughly. Then, remove the filter and use the household cleaner on it and remove any debris on your evaporator coils with your dry cloth. The exterior components can be cleaned by spraying off the grille, wiping down the fan blades, and using your vacuum to suck up any remaining debris.

Final Tips

Finally, make sure to be careful while cleaning your system. You want to avoid damaging or bending any components and be sure it is powered off and unplugged before you start. Go slow and make sure you aren’t skipping any steps or rushing through the process. Your entire unit needs time to air dry before it can be put back together and used again.
