Allergy Season Dos and Don’ts

Every year the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America publishes the Spring Allergy Capitals™ report. This report ranks the 100 worst cities in the U.S. for allergies. If you spend the entire fall coughing, sneezing, and blowing your nose, this report will shed some light on your situation. This year Dayton, OH, is ranked as the seventh worst city in the entire country for allergies. As a fellow allergy sufferer, I know how tough the fall can be. Below are some tips to improve your fall in Dayton so you’re not miserable all season: 1. Be aware of the daily pollen count. The pollen count fluctuates each day. Many organizations, including the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, show the daily pollen count and a breakdown of what allergens are the worst that day. You can even sign up to receive email alerts for Dayton and other cities. 2. Plan your activities carefully. If the pollen count is especially high for the day, take precautions. For example, closing the windows and using air conditioning or working out at the gym instead of running outside would both reduce your exposure to the allergens. 3. Have your vents cleaned. Dust, dirt, mold, and pollen all accumulate in the ductwork of your home over time. If you don’t have your vents cleaned periodically, your HVAC system will blow those allergens directly into the air you breathe. The simple solution is HVAC duct cleaning. For more information on the air quality in Dayton, read the Spring Allergy Capitals™ report. Clean Air with Allied Services Allied Services, Inc. can clean your HVAC system to ensure that your home is a refuge from the prolific pollen of fall.
