Heat Pump

Learn More about Heat Pumps from Allied Services

At Allied Services, Inc., we want you to be aware of and educated on all of your heating options, including heat pumps. All heat pumps operate on a common premise: the transfer of heat. What this means is that rather than burning fuel to create heat, a heat pump moves warm air from one place to another. Heat pumps use a small amount of energy to pull heat out of a low-temperature area and then pump it into a higher temperature area. Heat pumps can pull heat from the ground or the air before pumping it into your home. Keep reading to learn even more about one of our favorite heating options, the heat pump.

Heat Pump Size

Like all heating and cooling systems, heat pump sizing varies according to your specific needs. When your contractor comes to your home to give you an estimate, they should preform a Manual J load calculation to determine which size you need. Heat pump size is measured in tons – the larger the tonnage, the bigger the system.

Energy Efficiency

Heat pumps can be very efficient when installed and operated correctly. Minimum cooling efficiency standards for heat pumps were just raised to 14 SEER across the country, and there are models that reach 20 SEER and above.

Air-to-Air vs. Earth-to-Air

An air-to-air heat pump is also known as an air-source heat pump. These heat pumps transfer heat from outdoor air into your indoor air and vice versa. An earth-to-air heat pump, or ground-source geothermal heat pump, transfers heat from the earth and into your indoor air and vice versa.

Are you ready to look into having a heat pump installed in your home? Contact Allied Services today at (937) 269-5059 to schedule an appointment.
