Air Duct Cleaning

3 Signs Your Air Ducts Need Cleaning

After a long winter, Ohio homeowners are starting to think about spring and, with that, spring cleaning. As you begin ridding your home of all the winter grime and clutter, it’s important not to forget to clean and maintain your HVAC system and have your air ducts cleaned by the professionals at Allied Services, Inc. If you’re not sure if your air ducts need cleaning, here are some signs that it’s time.

1. Your Home Has Been Renovated

If your home was built recently or has undergone a major renovation, you may need to have your air ducts cleaned. Contractors are generally very careful about closing off work areas to keep the house clean; however, dust and dirt always seem to find their way in. So, unless your HVAC system was kept covered and turned off during the construction process, it likely has dirt and dust in the ductwork.

2. Your Home Is Always Dusty

If you are a diligent housekeeper and you dust weekly, yet your surfaces still are always covered in dust, you need your ducts cleaned. Additionally, if the supply and return vents around your home are visibly dirty and dusty, your ductwork is dusty as well and needs to be cleaned.

3. Your Utility Bills Are Higher Than Usual

Sometimes, ductwork can become so dirty that air isn’t able to flow freely and efficiently through your home’s HVAC system. When this happens, your furnace and air conditioner are forced to work harder and use more energy to maintain the temperature you’ve set, resulting in higher bills. Pay attention to your utility bills and if you receive one that is noticeably higher than the same time last year, you need to get your air ducts checked and cleaned.
